Music Therapy:

Music is therapeutic for the soul. However, just like any therapy, music needs to be used correctly. Much like a doctor prescribes medication based on each patient's specific history, music should be personalized. It's not just about hitting the keys or plucking the strings; music is a vast universe. Everyone must learn to harness the aspects of this universe that resonate with them.

For example, electronic music may not heal the soul of an overworked adult, but it can channel the energy of an active teenager in a positive direction.

Similarly, sophisticated symphonic works like those of Shostakovich may not help a school kid combat their fears, but they can certainly captivate the mind of an experienced intellectual. Some may find solace in simple, easy-listening melodies, while others revel in the rich harmonies of jazz. To navigate this musical universe, spanning from Bach to Beyonce, and to select what suits you best, it's advisable to seek guidance from an experienced professional. That's where we  come in. Elena Tchaikovsky is not only a music professor but also a psychologist with a PhD. She can guide you or your child into the world of music and help you choose a piece of it that will provide emotional support throughout your life.

smart playing:
We  emphasize "smart" playing over mere virtuosity. We teach to understand the structure of compositions, and the harmonic style of composers. We introduce contemporary music, both classical and jazz, and practice ear training. When possible, we add singing along with the piano accompaniment, ranging from Tchaikovsky's romances to modern pop and rock songs.
ANYTHING is possible:

From Moonshine Sonata to Moonlight Serenade, Raindrop Prelude to Over The Rainbow, Little Night Serenade to Strangers In The Night, Flight Of The Bumblebee to Fly Me To The Moon, Vienna Waltz to Bohemian Rhapsody, Barbie Girl to Monkey Man, Rolling Stones to Rolling In The Deep, and countless other iconic tunes -

You name it, you'll play it!

ADult Playing:

Music isn't solely a pursuit for those who begin in early childhood. Sometimes it demands a mature mind capable of analytical thinking and deep emotional connection. Our most cherished student, David L., started at the age of 78 and managed to master the entire Moonlight Sonata in just two years, delivering an exceptional interpretation. This experience fuels our enthusiasm for guiding adults into the world of music. For those who have wanted to pursue their childhood dreams but hesitated, we invite you to join us. All are welcome, and all are succeeding.

who we are:
With a Master's Degree in Music Pedagogy from one of the world's finest music colleges, The Moscow Conservatory, and a PhD in children psychology from The Free University of Berlin, Elena Tchaikovsky accumulated thirty years of teaching experience across esteemed Music Schools in Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Baltimore, and Los Angeles.
She has authored multiple music teaching books, catering to both young learners and adults, which were initially published in Germany. More recently,  she introduced an English version of  beginner-oriented music teaching book in the United States. Her engagement in the field extends broadly, as evidenced by her membership in esteemed organizations like the German Rock and Pop Musicians Association, Music Teachers National Association of America, GEMA, and SESAC.

Most of us have been classically trained as teachers. But that can be a liability on essential musicianship skills. This is the first time I've met a like-minded colleague  who focuses on modern popular music to restore rhythm, improvisation, and ability to play by ear, which is without doubts a higher priority.

Esther R.

Piano instructor (Los Angeles, CA)

In the beginning, she makes it what the student wants it to be. Want to play nothing but Disney and Minecraft? Done. But then, she uses this music to teach the skills and theory rather than treating skills and theory as the end-all, be-all. This is the best method for our kids nowadays, and I am forever grateful to this professor for giving back to both of my kids their love for music, which they almost lost while studying for several years with an online instructor from NYC.

David W.

Parent (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Ms. Elena teaches students how to teach themselves. I like her and Im going  to be a professional pianist.

Brendon H.

Student (West Palm Beach, FL)

My wife and I owe so much to Ms. Elena. She completely transformed our lives, bringing us out of a rut. At a time when our health was declining, and we felt isolated and bored in retirement, she appeared. Despite our initial reluctance, she convinced us to take up piano lessons. Since then, we've experienced a rebirth, filled with affection, curiosity, and joy. Though we were saddened when Elena left for America, her influence lingered, inspiring us to start our own music school for retirees. It's challenging, but incredibly rewarding as we see our students rediscover the joy of life, just as Elena did for us.

Ule L.

Former Student (Berlin, Germany)

Prof. Tchaikovsky remains my most influential teacher. Despite graduating from the St. Petersburg Music Conservatory, I struggled with shyness, especially performing on stage. Meeting Elena Tchaikovsky in Los Angeles for master classes was transformative. She not only instilled confidence in me but also taught me to communicate with audiences through music. Thanks to her guidance, I launched my career as a concert pianist.

Anna Ushakova

Pianist

Ms. Tchaikovsky teaches students to think like a musician, so they’re not held back by academic traditions. The results are that students learn to play authentically in their own style relatively quickly.
